Troop 709
Gary was involved with Troop 709 for 44 years and upon his death,
in his honor, a fund was started to raise money for a new scout
hut, below.
The original scout hut was a building scheduled for destruction at Dallas Love field and moved to this location. Through the years it had become a hazard. Perhaps the new scout hut will provide a great meeting place for as many years.
Gary's involvement wasn't limited to Troop 709. He was scout master and assisted in other troops and was active in Order of the Arrow. His greatest scouting honor was receiving the 'Silver Beaver' award.
Due to a swimming challenge, he was unable to get his Swimming Merit Badge. This also stopped his pursuit of Eagle Scout. For many, that would have been the end of their scouting story, but not for him. He always would say if you can't accomplish what you want, see if you can want what you can accomplish.
